Too Much

🖤
“They won’t tell you fairytales
of how girls can be dangerous and still win.
They will only tell you stories
where girls are sweet and kind
and reject all sin.
I guess to them it’s a terrifying thought,
a red riding hood
who knew exactly
what she was doing
when she invited the wild in.”

Today I have so much gratitude for my best friend. Friends, get you a tribe who not only lifts you up but defends you against the demons in your head.
I’ve been told MANY times I’m too much. Too loud. Too pushy. Too intense. Too passionate. I was thanking my best friend on a FaceTime today for advice on a problem I’m having; I thanked her and said "I need coaching in areas like this because I know I can be 'too much,’ and I want to help this problem not make it worse.” My best friend got really quiet and then gave me beautiful 2 minute speech. She said she wanted to silence and slap anyone who gave me this internal voice. She said I’m not “too much” but the level so many need. Honest and real and fire the world is missing. She wanted to slay all the dragons that have led me to hold back for fear of being “too much.”
This theme of women diminishing themselves to please others has been rampant in my news feeds and life lately. So I say to anyone feeling they need to shrink themselves to please others, read this beautiful quote by Nikita Gil and remember that you are enough. You are NEVER too much.
