Thermostat

You adjust the thermostat in your home. You wouldn't allow strangers off the street to walk into your home and adjust it for you. Nor would you allow your friends to walk right in and turn it all the way up or down.  So why focus on the thoughts of others? Why change behaviors based on what others think? This question was recently posed on the Aligned is the New Hustle podcast and stopped me in my tracks. Af...

Winter Solstice

✨🌙✨ "Don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in Winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." ~Rumi ✨🌙✨ Today marks the first day of winter and the longest day of darkness in the year. Each day after this will include a little more sunlight, giving us a glimmer of hope of the warmth to come. In my world, solstices and equinoxes are a time of celebration and gathering, filled with food, intentions and love. And although the Winter Solstice includes the same elements of celebration the energy and mood is a bit more somber and quiet. With darkness comes deep reflection. The darkness eliminates the distraction light can bring with all its beauty. While in darkness the connection to self bec...

The Whole Package

"You can be the whole package and still end up at the wrong address. When this happens, the receiver will mishandle you bc they don’t know what to do with you and they weren’t meant to have you in the first place." ~Unknown When I read this quote last week in my news feed I ass...

Speaking to Yourself

🔥 "Remember your words can plant gardens or burn whole forests down.” ~Gemma Troy What are you planting inside your head? Are your words encouraging? Loving? Or are you being cruel, fear based and dark? My intentions for speaking kind words to myself start out well, but 20 minutes into the world of 2020 and I’m in a tailspin. From news media, social media, radio and otherwise, 2020 has been filled with messages of hate, fear, and polarization. Even if my day starts off well, 10 minutes into social media and I feel that familiar grip of fear as I watch my thoughts become fire not flowers. In yoga we used this quote to see how we speak to ourselve...

Too Much

🖤 “They won’t tell you fairytales of how girls can be dangerous and still win. They will only tell you stories where girls are sweet and kind and reject all sin. I guess to them it’s a terrifying thought, a red riding hood who knew exactly what she was doing when she invited the wild in.” ~Nikita Gil 🖤 Today I have so much grati...

Gather

🌙 “I think when the dust settles, we will realize how very little we need, how very much we actually have, and the true value of human connection.” @tinybuddhaofficial 🌙 This last 4 days were the annual doterra world convention. Typically this event is held in Salt Lake City and attended by 30,000 people from all over the world. Doterra never fails to impress with their logistical skills holding space for SO many people and helping them feel welc...

Honesty

"A child will look anyone in the eye and say, ’This game is no longer fun,’ and simply stop playing it. Without hesitation. Without guilt. And we should still be doing the same thing. With bad lovers, bad friends, bad jobs….with the hate we have for ourselves.” ~Erin Van Vuren Sometimes the best advice comes from those not old enough to read or write. How often do we take on projects, jobs, favors only to please others or not make a fuss? Living our lives as if they are not our own and ours to dictat...

Hope Not Fear

“May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.” ~Nelson Mandela There is a lot of fear to go around right now. Scrolling through social media, turning on the TV or even just the eye contact with strangers in public. There’s a palpable tension with each turn making it hard not to feel the collective anxiousness. How do we transmute these fears into hope? In yoga class we used Nelson Mandela’s quote as our intention to observe where in our practice we were coming form fear or from hope. Fear says, “My knee will hurt in that position.” Hope says, “I’m going to safely try this position as I adjust my body and breath...

The Curse of Positivity

“Sunshine all the time makes a desert.” ~Arab Proverb This quote came to my mind when I was talking to a friend about positivity. He said he tends to focus so much on being positive all the time that the negative emotions can get pushed down only to bubble up later as anxiety. What a familiar feeling we all encounter. We try to focus on the positive, put on that mask, wear that...

Freedom

"If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too." ~Ivan Nuru If you’re living on planet Earth right now, you might have a few reasons to feel stressed. The drastic change in our normal, daily lives is enough to make the most level-headed human a little stressed. Yes, there’s that sneaky worry theme coming up again and again. When I was little I was such a worry wart. Especially when it came to excelling at school or activities. I would work myself up, and get so anxious without being able to...

Safe at Home

“The moment you change your perception, is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.” ~Dr Bruce Lipton You’re not stuck at home, you are safe at home. I read these beautiful words right after the closures and stay at home orders were issued written by an E...

Worry

Worrying will never change the outcome. 🖤 ~Unknown What’s your relationship with worry? Nine years ago I starting worrying a specific fear. A loved one of mine was diagnosed with a condition that could continue to reoccur. There was a 1% chance that it could be incurable. So for 9 years I let this worry sit on my shoulders like a heavy weight. Panicking the minute doctor or hospital visits happened. Putting myself through mental torture of “what could happen.” Imagining all the scenarios that could go wrong and just how awful it WOULD feel. An...

Postpone Your Reaction

When I’m tired and feel out of sorts I turn to old books I’ve read a hundred times, shows I’ve seen a million times, and my favorite old parenting podcast which feels like listening to old friends. Naptime radio, which is no longer recording, was a podcast I found when my son was at that nap-time age and gave me laughs, perspective and inspiration. Most of all it felt like having a few girlfriends who understood where I was and fed my soul. A portion of the podcast called the “Biz Buzz with Ali P” gave inspiration for business and life, some of my early dips into personal development. This particular message I was listening to again from the ever wise Ali was to "postpone your...

Instant Results

“You wouldn’t plant a seed and then dig it up every few minutes to se if it has grown. So why do you keep questioning yourself, your hard work and your decisions? Have patience, stop overthinking and keep watering your seeds.” ~Steven Bartlett I ate the kale am I healthy yet? Yep. We live in such an instant society that when we don’t see or feel INSTANT results it can be disheartening and yet one more reason we end up throwing in the towel. But we have to remember tha...

Lunar New Year

I love the Lunar New Year! I save my resolutions, word of the year, and yearly mantra for the Lunar New Year (yes part of the reasoning is due to the fact that I’m just not ready yet January first). Lunar New year or more commonly called the Chinese New Year is upon us. This day is marked in many areas as a day of large celebration and transition into a new year. Red is commonly worn and it is a day of celebration and food. Yes the date is forever changing because this holiday, like Easter is marked by the moon. The Lunar New Year is the day after the second new moon after the winter solstice. The Lunar Calendar involves the 12 zodiac signs al...

Goals

🔥 The Fire Inside You🔥 “There is enough fire inside you to put all of Hell to shame, but you are pretending to be water for someone who is too afraid to handle the dragons in your belly. Stop crushing the thing that makes you. Embrace the flames. Be whole again for yourself.” ~Nikita Gil Last night was a journey back to self. My dear friend and badass boss babe Hayley Adamski-Collins led us through he...

Positive Thinking

“None can destroy iron, but its own rust can! Likewise none can destroy a person, but its own mindset can!” ~Ratan Tata Rust is sneaky. It comes in slowly, without notice at first but can overwhelm and cover every inch in time. Just as your mindset can start off positive and encouraging. The negative sneaks in slowly like rust. We used this quote as an intention in yoga. Focusing on being aware of our mindset as we flowed through class. When negative thoughts pop up, which they will, we redirected the focus back top the breath. If the negative thoughts were loud or hard to not “let go” we visua...

Words as Power

How powerful are your words?  This question has emerged as a pattern in my life the last few weeks. A few conversations with close friends and listening to a podcast this question continues to surface.  How do words affect you? Can someone say one word and bring your blood pressure to the ceiling? Can someone say one line to you or on TV that instills fear and that tightness in your chest?  As said by a yogi I admire greatly on the Bleavn podcast this last week, “The issue is we as  humans focus way too much emphasis on our words. We have an inappropriate amount of concern of the  words use and not as much concern over what they mean.”   Read that again.   Not abou...

Dream

✨”This place is a dream. Only a sleeper considers it real. Then death comes like dawn, and you wake up laughing at what you thought was your grief.”✨ ~Rumi What if this was all just a dream? Whatever happened to you today, and in this lifetime, was just a dream? Wouldn’t it be so much easier to love, but more importantly to forgive? I've often had a bad dream about someone, them doing something out of character like being cruel to me and when I awoke I laughed. Of course once awake such a dream seems so incredibly silly. Forgiveness is quick and easy because it was JUST A DREAM.  What if it was? What if this...
