Embracing Transformation: New Moon in Scorpio on Halloween &  Día de los Muertos

This evening of Halloween we welcome a new moon in Scorpio giving only 1% illumination in the sky making for a dark and spooky evening. A cozy night to curl up with a journal, sip some cider and take a pause to breathe and evaluate your path.

Astrological Insights
Scorpio, ruled by Pluto and Mars, is known for its intensity, depth, and transformative nature. I often forget this sign is a water sign with the cardinal traits it seems to possess. This sign encourages us to explore the hidden corners of our psyche, confront fears, and embrace change. Scorpio is a sign that digs deep and is not afraid to face taboo topics or deep and complex emotions. So don't be surprised if this moon brings up some BIG emotions or deep topics of conversation. Make sure you are rooted in your truth before engaging in such conversations, but know this moon gives a powerful and bold energy to embrace any change needed.
Adding to the intensity, Mercury will be opposing retrograde Uranus in Taurus. This aspect introduces unpredictable energy, sudden insights, and a sense of restlessness. While Uranus typically brings external disruption, its retrograde motion may lead to internal upheaval. This is giving "the call is coming from inside the house" vibes so checking in internally is very important this evening.
Combining Scorpio with a new moon (new moons are known as launch points, new beginnings), makes it the perfect time to manifest and set a new direction.

The Significance of Halloween and Samhain
Halloween, has its roots in Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. Samhain was believed to be a time when the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest, allowing for communication with ancestors and spirits. Traditionally, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off wandering spirits. It's easy to see where Halloween and trick or treating evolved from this festival.
This history connects beautifully with the themes of the New Moon in Scorpio. Both encourage us to honor the past while embracing transformation, making this an ideal moment for reflection and intention-setting.
Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, takes place on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the New Moon. This vibrant Mexican and Latin American holiday is a time to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away. Families create altars (ofrendas) adorned with photographs, favorite foods, and mementos to honor their ancestors, blending joy with remembrance. Connecting with your ancestors is a beautiful practice and this week is a perfect time to start.

Rituals
Some of you this evening may be out with the littles and getting all the treats, or perhaps you love to spread the joy of treats at your house while enjoying all the costumes and visitors. Or maybe you like to lock up the house and watch scary movies in the dark while eating some takeout. Whether you have a set plan or not, ending your night with some journaling and reflection is a great way to harness this intense moon energy and do a check in with ourselves. I have journal prompts below if you need somewhere to get started. It's an intense time to be alive right now so make sure to take time for YOU and to check in with how you're doing.
Meditation and some deep breathing with longer pauses followed by some gentle yoga and then journaling for reflection is my favorite way to end or begin the evening. Making some seasonal treats and sips to chill and vibe into the deep autumn connection.
This weekend is the time to look at any winterization needed in your living spaces, remember to throw that ice scraper in the car, rotate the sweaters and boots back out and lean into some autumn recipes.

Journal Prompts for Reflection
  1. What are you carrying that you don't need to hold? What can you drop for this season?
  2. What emotions or hidden feelings have surfaced for me lately? How can I acknowledge and process them?
  3. Do you feel connected to your ancestors? What comes to mind when you hear "ancestor?" What part of your heritage do you want to connect with?
  4. How can I honor my ancestors or loved ones who have passed? What memories or traditions do I want to celebrate during this time?
  5. When you meditate and clear your mind, what do you desire? What do you deeply want? Keep asking "what do I want" even after you've answered multiple times. (asking over and over when you think you're empty can help to get to some of those deep rooted desires).
  6. What specific intentions do I want to set for this lunar cycle?
  7. In what areas of your life do you want transformation?
  8. In what ways can I celebrate life and acknowledge the cycles of death and rebirth in my own journey?
  9. What messages or signs have I received recently? How can I trust my intuition to guide me during this transformative time?
  10. Where can you take small steps to get what you journaled in #5? What's the first action step?
  11. Who do you miss? What about them do you miss? Can you embody these qualities in your daily life to honor them?
  12. What am I grateful for at this moment, especially regarding my connections to family and community? How can I express this gratitude as I honor those who came before me?
Final Thoughts
This Halloween, as the New Moon in Scorpio ushers in a period of introspection and transformation, take time to honor the past while setting intentions for the future. Embrace this powerful energy to manifest new beginnings, and remember the legacies that have shaped your journey.
May this season be a time of profound change and connection, guiding you toward your highest self.
