Stress

Nothing in our body happens in a vacuum. Our emotions do not solely live and exist in the brain, therefore our body is affected by our emotions and chronic stress. Hormones and chemicals are released, pathways are activated and it becomes a full body experience. This is why so many people are realizing pains and ailments could have stemmed from long term stress or chronic emotional distress as research is poi...

Peace and Adaptiv

How I’m currently holding it together: -coffee -dogs -memes -coffee -Peace and adaptiv I have an amazing ability to detach from my emotions. I stay calm, logical and in the moment without feeling. This ability came in handy when I worked as an RN and probably helped form my dark sense of humor. These last 6 months this super power has been extremely helpful. Watching a parent suffer through a terminal illness is rough. Most days I feel like I can tackle any medical issue and challenge with a calm and poised mind and spiri...

It’s that time of year where we are getting out for fun in the Sun. For some of us that can mean some redness and discomfort after TOO much fun. The normal go-to solution is grabbing your bottle of aloe vera gel for some quick relief. What’s in your aloe? Check the ingredient list. Can you pronounce it? Does i...

Honesty

"A child will look anyone in the eye and say, ’This game is no longer fun,’ and simply stop playing it. Without hesitation. Without guilt. And we should still be doing the same thing. With bad lovers, bad friends, bad jobs….with the hate we have for ourselves.” ~Erin Van Vuren Sometimes the best advice comes from those not old enough to read or write. How often do we take on projects, jobs, favors only to please others or not make a fuss? Living our lives as if they are not our own and ours to dictate. In yoga we used this quote as an intention during our practice. We focused on what feels good and leaned in a little deeper. Trying not to let the mind and body go on auto pilot but truly examini...

Ginger

This little bottle packs a huge punch! Ginger is a spicy, warm oil I first fell in love with for its ability to help soothe my belly and keep my lunch down when I felt a little queasy. Just a little drop rubbed over the belly or massaged onto the earlobes for quick relief. Today ginger saved me when I made a little mistake making my daily green juice. Normally I combine celery, mixed greens, a little ginger and lemon in my vitamin. What I didn’t realize was the mixed greens I bought had quite a few bitter plants which led to a strong bitterness in my juice. One drop of ginger oil to the bottle and ...

Breathe

Just Breathe. We all need to take a collective breath through the nose and sigh it out through the mouth. Breathe touch is a handy way to support the airways and breathe easy. I like to keep this one in my purse or yoga bag to use before a workout or in this fire season that seems to start a little earlier each year. 😢 😷 Want a little life hack? Before putting on your mask, roll breathe touch on the inside of your mask to give yourself your own personal diffuser on the go.

Hope Not Fear

“May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.” ~Nelson Mandela There is a lot of fear to go around right now. Scrolling through social media, turning on the TV or even just the eye contact with strangers in public. There’s a palpable tension with each turn making it hard not to feel the collective anxiousness. How do we transmute these fears into hope? In yoga class we used Nelson Mandela’s quote as our intention to observe where in our practice we were coming form fear or from hope. Fear says, “My knee will hurt in that position.” Hope says, “I’m going to safely try this position as I adjust my body and breath.” Fear says, “I’m not a ‘yogi’ if I don’t do the whole practice.” Hope says, “Yoga ...

The Curse of Positivity

“Sunshine all the time makes a desert.” ~Arab Proverb This quote came to my mind when I was talking to a friend about positivity. He said he tends to focus so much on being positive all the time that the negative emotions can get pushed down only to bubble up later as anxiety. What a familiar feeling we all encounter. We try to focus on the positive, put on that mask, wear that smile behind the pain. But what happens? That sunshine all the time makes for a lonely desert. When we only focus on positivity we deny the real emotions a...

Freedom

"If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too." ~Ivan Nuru If you’re living on planet Earth right now, you might have a few reasons to feel stressed. The drastic change in our normal, daily lives is enough to make the most level-headed human a little stressed. Yes, there’s that sneaky worry theme coming up again and again. When I was little I was such a worry wart. Especially when it came to excelling at school or activities. I would work myself up, and get so anxious without being able to calm my stream of thoughts and worries. During one of my meltdowns when I was in middle school ...

Grief

✨ “All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.” J.R.R. Tolkien ✨ From the age of fourteen I always dreaded this day. It’s amazing to me t...
