Freedom

"If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too."
~Ivan Nuru

If you’re living on planet Earth right now, you might have a few reasons to feel stressed. The drastic change in our normal, daily lives is enough to make the most level-headed human a little stressed. Yes, there’s that sneaky worry theme coming up again and again.
When I was little I was such a worry wart. Especially when it came to excelling at school or activities. I would work myself up, and get so anxious without being able to calm my stream of thoughts and worries.
During one of my meltdowns when I was in middle school my sister stopped me and asked me a question that helped me change my relationship with worry. She helped me relax my breathing after listening and then asked me is there ANYTHING you can do it about it right now? ANY action Amanda that can change this right now?
The answer was no. She then said, then why would you waste any moment worrying? Is worrying going to do anything but make you miserable?
Nope. So, wait until tomorrow, when you CAN do something about it, and then take action!
This wise and beautiful advice has stuck with me long beyond my teenage years. There were times in my worry I found, yes, I CAN do something right now, albeit small, and in those times I would take action and then let go of my worry knowing it was out of my control until x time, so why worry?

Last week (or the week before, time doesn’t seem to make sense anymore), one of my friends and yoga students @sarandthecity shared this Ivan Nuru quote and we used it for our practice.

Reminding ourselves that the mat is for focusing on the breath and the alignment of the bones. Forcing ourselves again and again to let go of worry and focus on the breath which brings us back to the now.

Happy Monday tribe
Or as we call it now, day.
