Safe at Home

“The moment you change your perception, is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.”
~Dr Bruce Lipton

You’re not stuck at home, you are safe at home.

I read these beautiful words right after the closures and stay at home orders were issued written by an ER nurse. Our language can have such power over our mindset. By shifting our perspective to feeling safe at home it feels like such a gift. The gift of time and presence.
Yes, it can come with so much stress especially if mental health is not in check or other stressors such as paychecks and bills are looming, but finding the space to breathe and focus on the word safe. We are not sheltering in place to avoid bombs or attacks, we are staying clean and safe at home.
During our zoom class for rishi yoga last week we focused on this idea of being safe at home not stuck at home. As we flowed through practice we noticed where we use our language to “feel stuck not safe” and tried to reverse it and focus on the breath. You may feel like “you can’t do that pose” because of your body but that’s using the “stuck” mindset. By focusing on what does feel good in a pose and what modifications DO make the body feel good we started to reframe our brains.
For those of you with mental health issues feeling out of control right now my heart is with you. Please try in those hard times to focus on the breath. Count the length of the inhale, try to make each inhale as long or longer than that number. Try to sit and allow yourself to breathe. And always reach out when you need it. We all feel alone but we are not truly alone.
